Valentine's Day Crossbow Attack Leaves 1 Injured, 1 Dead

1 Dead, 1 Injured In Valentine's Day Crossbow Attack

A Canadian man is dead after shooting his estranged wife's son with a crossbow before turning the weapon on himself.

The incident occurred in a restaurant parking lot on Valentine's Day. Police in Mission, British Columbia, say that the 24-year-old victim was leaving work at the restaurant around 11:30 p.m., Friday, when he was shot with a crossbow bolt by a 59-year-old man.

Co-workers rushed the victim to the hospital, where he was treated for injuries to his right arm and torso. Police arrived at the scene to find the shooter unconscious after apparently turning the crossbow on himself. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

It is not yet clear what precipitated the incident.

Police told the CBC that they are investigating the case as an attempted murder-suicide, but that they still have a lot of questions about the incident.

"One of the things that stands out for police in this incident is the choice of weapon -- a crossbow. They're not often used by criminals but they can be deadly," police spokeswoman Amanda Harnett told the CBC.
