Emil Hegle Svendsen Celebrated Early And Almost Lost Gold Medal In Men's 15 km Mass Start

Early Celebration Almost Cost Biathlete Gold Medal

Emil Hegle Svendsen got a little bit a ahead of himself near the finish line of the men's 15-kilometer mass start and it nearly cost him a gold medal.

In the lead as he approached the finish line on Tuesday, the 28-year-old Norwegian raised his arms to start celebrating. As he slowed up, Martin Fourcade of France nearly caught up with him. Richard Heathcote of Getty Images was there to capture Svendsen's premature celebration and Fourcade's final attempt to steal the gold medal from him in one incredible photo.
