When it comes to lowering blood pressure without the use of medication, Mayo Clinic cardiologist Sharon Mulvagh, MD, had some great tips to share with us.
First, when it comes to diet, it’s critical to monitor your sodium intake. Although the American diet averages an unhealthy 3-4 grams of sodium per day, Dr. Mulvagh recommends you consume a maximum of 2 grams of sodium per day. Since sodium can be hidden in processed foods or dishes served at restaurants Dr. Mulvagh recommends tips like asking for low-sodium alternatives while out to eat and carefully reading labels at the grocery store.
Dr. Mulvagh also recommends regular exercise as a natural means of lowering blood pressure.
