'Portlandia' Guest Stars Often Booked Through Text Messages, Says Fred Armisen

The Secret To The Insane Guest Cameos On 'Portlandia'

Almost every episode of "Portlandia" is jam-packed with cameos from celebrities. Chloe Sevigny, Martina Navratilova, Jack White, Juliette Lewis, Roseanne Barr, the Dirty Projectors ... the list goes on and on.

But viewers would expect nothing less from the show's creators/stars, Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen. The duo stopped by HuffPost Live to talk about the "Portlandia" Season 4 premiere and how they book those notable guest appearances. According to Armisen, it's all done through text message.

When it came to book Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, Brownstein said, "It's sort of a humble brag, but Eddie, he's a friend of mine, and my old band toured with Pearl Jam. He is somebody that has a wonderful sense of humor, he's brilliant and I think he does make fun of himself ... On our show he can make fun of the fact that he's aware of his persona."

Season 4's guest stars include Kirsten Dunst, Maya Rudolph, Olivia Wilde, Vanessa Bayer and Wilco's Jeff Tweedy. Let's hope they were booked via text with lots of emojis.

"Portlandia" Season 4 premieres Feb. 27 at 10 p.m. EST on IFC.
