When single mom Kym Whitley adopted her son, Joshua, she wasn't alone. Her group of friends, "The Village," stepped up to help her -- including Rodney, who became Joshua's father figure.
After a blowout fight with Rodney, Kym sits down with Joshua on "Raising Whitley" to explain why Rodney won't be around as much, but that he still loves him.
"You have so many people that love you," Kym says in the above clip from the episode. As she's listing off names, Joshua makes a surprising addition. "And KK," he says.
Kym is taken aback. KK is Kym's mother, who passed away. "KK was my mother's nickname," she explains. "I don't use my mother's nickname around Joshua, I never have."
"How do you even know that name? Do you know KK?" Kym asks.
Joshua nods. "She's up in the air."
"You can't see her," he says.
Kym is shocked. "I've always heard of situations like this, but I've never experienced it," she says.
"It feels good to know, after this tough week, that Joshua has a guardian angel -- and her name is KK."
