Ukraine Crisis Is The Result Of U.S. Drag Show, Right-Wing Pundit Claims

Pundit Claims Ukraine Crisis Is The Result Of...A U.S. Drag Show

Russia's battle with the West for i nfluence in Ukraine has drawn inevitable Cold War comparisons, but according to one right-wing pundit, there's a more simple explanation.

As Right Wing Watch is reporting, the American Family Association's Kevin McCullough implied that Russian President Vladimir Putin opted to seize Ukraine's Crimea region after witnessing the so-called "sissification" of the U.S. military.

"Putin looks at the U.S., and we’re having drag shows on our bases,” McCullough said. Citing a drag fundraiser which took place at a U.S. military base in Okinawa, Japan, he continued, "Do developments like this have anything to do with making our military leaders look less impressive in the eyes of the world?"

Slipping into a mock Russian accent, he then added, "Does Mr. Putin sit there and go, ‘Yeah, I’m not going to do anything Obama says because number one, he can’t keep his word, and number two, your military is now having drag shows on its bases?’”

Last year, Robert Ritchie, Executive Director of America Needs Fatima, a project of the right-wing American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property, linked Illinois' deadly tornadoes to the state's approval of same-sex marriage.

Meanwhile, in 2012, chaplain John McTernan linked Hurricane Sandy to LGBT people and President Barack Obama's backing of marriage equality. While most of McTernan's wrath was directed at Obama, he had some choice words for former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, too.

Also in 2012, Focus on the Family founder James Dobson suggested the deadly shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. was God's revenge for a growing acceptance of gay rights.
