Mom Blames Baby's Death On Jesus In Tennessee

Police Arrest Mom Who Blames Jesus For Baby's Death

A Tennessee mother accused of killing her 7-month-old daughter on Friday won't be arraigned until a mental evaluation is conducted, a judge ordered Monday.

Authorities in Clarksville, Tenn. responding to reports of a naked woman screaming in road early Friday morning found a dead baby inside her home, the Tennessean reported.

Officers arrested Stefany Paige Johnson after finding 7-month-old Astrid Johnson’s dead body on the couch. Police said they found no evidence that Johnson, 24, tried to provide medical care for her child, the Tennessean reported.

Johnson allegedly told police she was bathing her daughter when “Jesus came down and took Astrid to heaven,” the Leaf Chronicle reported.

Police concluded Johnson’s negligence resulted in the child’s death, the Leaf Chronicle reported.

Johnson had been scheduled to appear in court Monday morning on a charge of criminal homicide. She is being held without bail at the Montgomery County jail, the Associated Press reported.

Johnson was allegedly uncooperative and belligerent when police arrived.

She and her husband have another child, but the age and gender were not released. The couple's neighbors told WSMV-TV the father of the family is currently deployed in Afghanistan.

Anyone with information that could help authorities in regards to this incident are asked to call 931-648-0656 ext. 5447.
