WATCH: Diego Luna Gets Rude Awakening When Asking Pedestrians Who Cesar Chavez Was

Diego Luna was in for a rude awakening when he ventured onto Cesar Chavez St. in Austin, Texas and asked people “Do you know who Cesar Chavez was?”

The Mexican actor-turned-director is currently promoting his film “Cesar Chavez,” which is based on the Mexican-American labor leader’s civil rights activism and legacy after co-founding the National Farm Workers Association.

Unfortunately the star’s brief stint on the street found that not many people recognize Chavez’s name-- or Diego Luna’s face for that matter.

After the premiere of his film, Luna took to the street with Fusion to see if pedestrians around the SXSW festival knew who the American civil rights leader was. But only a few even stopped to speak to the “Y Tu Mamá También” actor.

“People...they don’t want to participate. This is terrible,” Luna said.

The South by Southwest festival attracts an international and national crowd and while the first two men interviewed were clearly not from this side of the Atlantic, the rest gave some very disappointing answers.

Expect a reference to former Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez and a man with a creative contraption for his GoPro camera that just may have made Diego’s day. Check out the video above.
