As former Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) explores a possible second go-round in New Hampshire, President Barack Obama thinks the Granite State already has a "great senator" in Jeanne Shaheen.
In a Wednesday interview with NECN-TV, Obama was asked whether Brown was the type of moderate senator he needs back in the Senate. The president said he would wait until a formal announcement arrives before talking about New Hampshire, but did suggest a state that could use Brown's type of politics.
"I'd be happy if Scott Brown wants to move down to Texas," Obama said. "You know, we could always use some moderate Republicans in other parts of the country. New Hampshire's already got it covered with a great senator."
Brown reacted to Obama's comments in a Thursday statement, prodding him to come campaign with Shaheen and "tell the truth" about his "disastrous health care law." Back in October, Shaheen was one of the first senators to call on the Obama administration to extend the health care law's open enrollment deadline.

"President Obama and Jeanne Shaheen are joined at the hip. If it wasn't for Jeanne Shaheen, Obamacare would not have become the law of the land. He is going to do everything he can to help Jeanne Shaheen in this election, and today I am inviting her to bring him to New Hampshire to defend their health care law. Nothing will stop me from continuing to tell the truth about this disastrous health care law and its negative effects on the people of New Hampshire."
HuffPost Pollster's latest compilation of 12 publicly available polls shows that should Brown decide to run, he appears to be facing an uphill battle. As of Monday, Shaheen was holding just under a 10-point lead with 99.9 percent confidence.
UPDATE: 7:10 p.m. ET -- Brown responded to Obama's remark during a Thursday interview with NECN.
"I appreciate him saying that, but I would encourage him actually to come up here and campaign with Senator Shaheen and explain to the people of New Hampshire that what I'm hearing is why did they ram Obamacare down the throats of the people of New Hampshire," he said.
