Why Breakup Sex And Makeup Sex Are Overrated

We've all been there: You get into a heated argument with your partner, and then, before you know it, you find yourself having crazy intense makeup sex with each other (Fight? What fight?). Or maybe you slip back into bed with the girlfriend or boyfriend who dumped you months ago, just for old time's sake.

It's hard to say "no" to something as heady as makeup or breakup sex -- but is doing the deed with someone you're upset with really worth the emotional cost? XoJane deputy editor Mandy Stadtmiller says no.

"I think breakup and makeup sex are overrated," Stadtmiller told HuffPost Live Wednesday. "It's something you do when you're like, 17-years-old and you think that it actually makes a relationship exciting. When you grow up, you realize that that's actually just a bad relationship if you continue to have breakup sex."

Stadtmiller said that, with age, "you learn how to say 'no,' you get boundaries and you develop a backbone and self-respect. You don't want to have your pride given away by screwing someone who dumped you or you just dumped."
