Jimmy Carter: It Might Be An Embarrassment To Obama To Single Out Black People

During a HuffPost Live interview on Tuesday, former president Jimmy Carter used the Obama administration's handling of African-American issues as a parallel while discussing ambivalence from female leaders to voice support on women's issues.

"Some women when they are elected become champions of human rights," he told HuffPost Live's Alyona Mink. "I've seen other women who are elected who didn't pay any attention to that particular thing because it was kind of an embarrassment to them to single out women since they were a woman, like I think it might be an embarrassment to President Obama to single out African American people."

Carter's book, 'A Call to Action: Women, Religion, Violence, and Power' dives further into this issue.
