This Floating Electric Concept Car Will Get You Out Of Tricky Situations

Prep For Global Warming With This Floating Electric Car Concept

The classic Amphicar may soon have some competition. Well, kind of.

The Fomm Concept One is a four-seat electric car that its makers say will float on water and will even be able to move on the water's surface, thanks to a "water-jet generator." However, the company is adamant the Concept One is not an amphibious vehicle and says the car's water-going capabilities are best reserved for emergency situations.

The Japanese company developed the floating vehicle to help "prevent breakdowns ... in the floods and downpours that often occur in Southeast Asia," the carmaker's website notes. According to the manufacturer, the car has a range of up to 62 miles between charges and uses a motorcycle-like steering system that allows the driver to operate the accelerator and brakes by hand.

A Fomm representative told The Huffington Post the production Concept One will come to fruition in 2015. It will first be offered in Thailand followed by Southeast Asia. The Concept One is currently on display at the Bangkok International Motor Show.
