Razor Blades Glued To Playground Injure Toddler In Illinois

Posted: Updated:

A 2-year-old boy was injured by a razor blade at an Illinois playground on Monday -- but the blade wasn't left carelessly lying around. It had been glued to the playground equipment.

Nearly a dozen blades were found glued to monkey bars, slides and other objects at Millennium Park in East Moline.

"I've seen a lot of things, but not razor blades glued to equipment at a park," Lt. Brian Foltz of the East Moline Police Department told KWQC.

The boy suffered a minor cut on a finger and was treated at home by his father, who then contacted police, the Quad-City Times reports.

Local news reports say the blades were attached with a white putty-like substance. Police have been checking other parks in the city and in nearby communities, but have found no other razor blades.

There are no suspects as of this writing, but the Quad-City Times reports that whoever did it faces felony charges of aggravated battery to a child and a possible prison sentence of 6 to 30 years if convicted.

"The seriousness of this is pretty evident," Capt. John Reynolds told the newspaper. "Any time you put razor blades on playground equipment where children play, it's very serious. The way they were put on there shows someone wanted to do harm to a child."
