In Turkey, Erdogan's Voice Gives Out On Him

Turkey's Prime Minister Gives Campaign Speech In Ridiculous Voice

It's a real shame that Turkey banned YouTube this week, because the nation could be having a field day with a campaign speech delivered yesterday by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the city of Van. After a grueling campaign schedule that reportedly saw Erdogan speaking at 2-3 rallies per day in order to drum up support ahead of this Sunday's local elections, the prime minister's voice finally give out on him yesterday.

In a video captured by Turkey's Hurriyet Daily, Erdogan apologizes for the quality of his voice before launching into an address that sounds like something between a Monty Python sketch and a rooster.

Odd speeches are nothing new for Erdogan, who baffled audiences with a giant hologram version of himself in an address last January, although that was at least delivered in his usual baritone cadence. Additional rallies planned for today have been cancelled so that the prime minister can give his vocal chords some rest. Probably a good call.
