Gas Station Worker Fired After Leaving Angry Note For Boss

Posted: Updated:

A man working at a gas station in Michigan was fired after walking off the job and leaving a note for his manager, accusing her of "negligence" for being an hour late to relieve him.

Joe Blumm says he penned the disgruntled note after working his full shift only to find that his manager was a no-show for the next shift. He posted the note in one of the store's windows, locked the door and went home.

He was eventually fired for his actions, but that wasn't before a customer came by, snapped a picture of the note and posted it to Reddit. The note went viral, and days later Blumm noticed it among the site's top stories.

"Hey boss," the note reads. "Learn to be on time or at least communicate when you are going to be late. +1hr with no phone call is unacceptable. As you can see, the doors are locked. I went home. Fire me if you must, but realize I walked due to YOUR negligence."

“I know I struck a chord with a lot of disgruntled, low-paid employees who get the short end of the stick,” he told local news outlet Fox 17, confessing that the note had been a long time coming.

Fox 17 reached out to the manager, who reportedly admitted to being late but said neither she nor anyone else working at that gas station received so much as a phone call from Blumm before he closed up shop and left the note.

No employees were willing to comment to The Huffington Post on the matter.
