First 'Halt And Catch Fire' Trailer Goes Back To The Early Days Of The Computer

Travel Back To The '80s With New 'Halt And Catch Fire' Trailer

Today, the thought of being without a personal computer feels like a horrifying nightmare, yet such a time was not that far away.

"Halt and Catch Fire," a new drama series from AMC, looks back to the early days of the home computer only a few decades ago. Set in 1983 Texas, "Halt" takes place a year after IBM released their first personal computer. Lee Pace ("Pushing Daisies," "The Hobbit") plays Joe MacMillan, a former IBM exec who wants to reverse engineer an IBM computer to make an even more revolutionary device.

The first trailer for the series, set to Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams," introduces us to Joe who brings on computer engineer Gorgon Clark (Scoot McNairy of "Bones") and Cameron Howe, a young prodigy, to help him on his visionary mission. AMC is definitely out to tackle quality period dramas, first with "Mad Men" and now with "Halt" and their new Revolutionary War drama "Turn," so our expectations are pretty high.

Watch the trailer above, likely on your personal computer (or personal smartphone), and be grateful that it's not 1983 anymore.

"Halt and Catch Fire" premieres on AMC on June 1 at 10 p.m. ET.
