Mystery Man Who Has Donated $17 Million To Struggling Detroiters Will Soon End Giving

As Detroit was arguably the hardest hit American city during the 2008-09 economic recession, a recent revelation making waves in the Motor City certainly isn't cause for celebration.

The Detroit Free Press reports that the city is losing one major donor who anonymously helped supplement rent, medicine and overdue utility bills for its poorest citizens. The mystery man -- confirmed to be male -- has donated $17 million over the past nine years through the Archdiocese of Detroit's Angel Fund, combating the city's chronic poverty crisis.

However, the anonymous donor's funding will end on April 30, according to the Detroit Free Press.

The fund largely went unnoticed until last month, when a Detroit priest came under fire for alleged fraud. The fund's abrupt end date may seem peculiar, as the fraud allegations surfaced just weeks ago, but an archdiocesan official claims the two revelations are independent of one another.
