Groupon Returns To TV For First Time Since Super Bowl Ad Controversy

Groupon Returns To TV After Three Years Away

Guess who's back.

Groupon has finally made its return to TV advertising for the first time since its controversial Super Bowl commercial set off a chain of outraged reactions in 2011.

Remember that one? Here's a quick reminder in case you forgot:

Viewers found the ad wildly offensive and accused the company of exploiting the tragedies in Tibet under Chinese occupation. Groupon CEO Andrew Mason defended the commercial after it aired, claiming that the company's intention was to "draw attention to the cultural tensions created by brands" and "bring more funding and support to the highlighted causes." Mason ultimately apologized for the controversial ad, and it was pulled from the air shortly after.

Three years later, Groupon is back with a new spot featuring a much more playful showing of all that the daily-deals provider has to offer, including yoga, sushi, rock climbing and local coffee shops.

Check out the new ad in the video below.
