D'oh! HUGE Mistake Costs Man $100,000 In NCAA Bracket Contest

Corey Johnson says he's a lifelong Connecticut fan, so on one level he must be pleased with the Huskies' victory over Kentucky in the NCAA championship Monday. But he must feel he's missing something, a really big something.

Johnson is telling outlets that he should have won $100,000 in Warren Buffett's Quicken Loans Billion Dollar Bracket Challenge. He was reportedly in fourth place among millions of entrants before the title game, after he correctly picked 48 winners in the NCAA tournament and chose Connecticut as the last school standing.

Just one problem, though: His forecast of UConn defeating the Wildcats in the final didn't register. He says he clicked save. It just didn't save. So no $100,000 for finishing among the top 20, where he would have been if the pick had been secured.

He and his brother made some calls to bracket host Yahoo, to no avail, USA Today reported. But he did get one reward you can't put a price on: a condolence hug from Mom at her office. "On the count of three she had everyone turn and say ‘Sorry, Corey,’” Johnson told USA Today.

Perhaps if Johnson, 28, of Meriden, Conn., had been as careful with his bracket as Connecticut was in shooting free throws (10 for 10) Monday, he'd be $100,000 richer.

"It was like hitting the winning shot, then being told the clock had already expired," he told Deadspin.

In a bizarre coincidence, another Cory (slightly different spelling) also entered the Buffet bracket challenge and ended up in seventh place, according to Yahoo's unofficial standings on Tuesday. This Cory apparently managed to save his Connecticut pick.
