Krauthammer: 'The Clock Has Run Out On Benghazi'

Charles Krauthammer declared that the Benghazi investigation "is done" and that time has run out for Republicans to get the answers they want.

"Politically speaking, the administration has won," Krauthammer said on Fox News Channel's “Special Report” Wednesday. "They ran out the clock."

The Washington Post columnist was referring to the recent efforts of Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) who pushed for a renewed investigation by a special committee into the September 2012 deadly assault on the US consulate in Benghazi.

"It is imperative that we learn everything that happened before, during and after the attacks," the senators said in a statement.

But Krauthammer said Wednesday that "it's too late" for a special committee as proposed by the three Republican senators, and argued that if there had been a select committee from the beginning then "we would have gotten to the bottom of this." He said that it is now time for Republicans to focus on Syria, the Iran negotiations and the crisis occurring in Ukraine and Eastern Europe.

Krauthammer's comments echoed his predictions in May 2013 when he told Fox News that the administration's strategy was to "delay its answers" and "string it out over time" until the media lost interest.

"That's worked up until now," he said on "Special Report" in May. "But I think they will not get away with it"

But now Krauthammer seems to suggest that the administration has 'gotten away with it,' emphasizing that such an investigation "should have been a year ago, three, four more months ago," but time has officially run out.

"Unfortunately you only have a certain amount of time, a certain amount of attention," he said. "The clock has run out on Benghazi."
