Prominent GOP Donor: Chris Christie 'Would Connect Better' Than Jeb Bush

A prominent GOP donor is standing by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) as his top 2016 choice.

In an interview with BuzzFeed posted Friday, Home Depot co-founder Ken Langone explained why he's "absolutely" still behind Christie for president, putting him ahead of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R-Fla.) as the GOP's best option.

“Jeb would be a superb president, but I think Christie would connect better — we desperately need a president to connect to the people,” Langone said.

Back on March 26, Christie said that the George Washington Bridge scandal has not altered his possible 2016 plans, noting that nothing has made him feel differently about "his ability to pursue that job or to perform in it." Earlier this week, Bush said he would decide before year's end, telling Fox News that the state of politics is "crazy right now."

Langone's support for Christie comes a week after he waded into his own set of trouble with a questionable Hitler comparison. In an interview with Politico, Langone warned of populist rhetoric against the wealthy, lining it up with 1930s Germany.

“I hope it’s not working,” Langone said. “Because if you go back to 1933, with different words, this is what Hitler was saying in Germany. You don’t survive as a society if you encourage and thrive on envy or jealousy.”
