Mary Elizabeth Winstead On Her Character In 'Alex Of Venice,' Now Playing At The Tribeca Film Festival

Mary Elizabeth Winstead Excited To Not Just Play 'The Sexy Girl'

Mary Elizabeth Winstead has starred in such movies as "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" and "Live Free Or Die Hard," but she cites her role in "Alex of Venice," which premiered Friday night, April 18, at the Tribeca Film Festival, as a rare opportunity to play a more three-dimensional female character.

"I think just getting to be more than one thing as an actress is always so exciting," the 29-year-old told HuffPost Live's Ricky Camilleri. "When you don't have to just be the sexy girl, or just be the quirky girl, or whatever the one quality that is so often kind of given to you as an actor."

"She's just a human being," Winstead said of Alex, the character she plays in the film. "She kind of gets to be everything in one, and that to me is always really exciting."

"Alex of Venice" stars Winstead alongside Chris Messina, who also directed the feature.
