Harlem Globetrotters Attempt Surfing In Hawaii (VIDEO)

Posted: Updated:

Barack Obama admits he can’t compete with the Harlem Globetrotters on the court, but the bodysurfing boss of the free world might have a fighting chance in the ocean.

It turns out open water, specifically surfing, is like Kryptonite to the world-famous super athletes.

In the above video, courtesy of Freesurf Magazine, watch as teammates Bull Bullard and Flight Time Lang, respectively a dunker and dribbler for the Globetrotters, discover just how challenging surfing is on Oahu's famed North Shore. The two took lessons from Uncle Bryan Surratt before paddling out for an hour-long session as part of their “Fans Rule” world tour.

While doing backflips on the beach (0:25) is a piece of cake for Bullard, it looks like those baby waves out there were a bigger challenge.

According to Bullard, out of all the crazy stunts they do on the court, surfing is the “number one hardest thing" he's done.

"Oh my gosh," he told The Huffington Post, "if you don’t do this every day, if you don’t take it seriously, you could hurt yourself or kill yourself."

And the Harlem Globetrotters are no wimps.

After all, last year, Bullard made the "American Ninja Warrior" course look like a kindergartener’s playground without ever practicing.

Then he made news after pulling a backboard down on top of him and living to shrug it off.

But nothing humbles two basketball heroes like the mighty sea.

Bullard and Lang catch a few tandem waves while doing tricks, but they both seem a bit relieved to get back on solid ground.

“It was our first time doing it,” Bullard told The Huffington Post. “So we weren’t pro, but we got the hang of it.”

While they may not be adding a water component to their show anytime soon, we still want a pair of those Globetrotter board shorts.
