'A New Earth' Author Eckhart Tolle Says We Have An Addiction To Unhappiness (VIDEO)

How To End Your Addiction To Drama

Are you seeking peace or drama in your life?

Bestselling spiritual author Eckhart Tolle says we all want peace -- but something inside of us yearns for drama and conflict. On Oprah and Tolle's "A New Earth" series, they discuss how unhappiness feeds the human ego.

"The ego wants to complain, the ego wants to be resentful, the ego wants drama," Oprah says.

In the above video, Tolle calls it our "addiction to unhappiness."

"When you are unhappy, for whatever reason, once you are trapped in that energy of unhappiness -- you don't want to get out," he says.

To end the addiction to drama, Tolle says we need to detach from the thought and become aware of our patterns. "On some level, you enjoy your unhappiness," he says. "And when you can become aware of that, then suddenly you're stepping out."

"Oprah and Eckhart Tolle: A New Earth," a 10-part series airing Sundays at 12 p.m. ET on OWN.
