Dr. Mark Hyman, M.D., thought Betty Crocker was real.

But Betty Crocker and other convenience food products instead symbolize the hijacking of our kitchens by Big Food, Hyman said at Thrive, The Huffington Post's second Third Metric conference on redefining success beyond the two metrics of money and power.

He said that around 80 percent of food products contain added sugar, including many we wouldn't expect to be sweetened, like tomato sauce. "Cereal ... shouldn't be called breakfast, it should be called dessert!" he said.

In the upcoming documentary "Fed Up", from filmmaker Stephanie Soechtig, TV journalist Katie Couric and author Laurie David, Hyman helps to explain the critical role all this sugar has played in driving chronic disease.
