Tahoe the black bear cub was rescued in a very unusual way.
In early April, the baby was left inside an animal carrier on the doorstep of the BEAR League offices in Homewood, Calif. and then transported to the Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care (LTWC) facility.
Rescuers don't know who dropped off Tahoe, but LTWC recently received an anonymous call from a man claiming to have saved the cub after finding her next to a dead bear near Humboldt Redwoods State Park.
When Tahoe arrived at the facility she weighed only 5.4 pounds and was estimated to be around 8 to 10 weeks old and still learning to walk, reports ABC News.
With the absence of her mother, she was certainly lucky to have caretakers available to bottle-feed and make her comfy, and in the video above she is seen sucking on a blanket and chortling -- a behavior like purring. "This is a sound little cubs make when they are content and happy," the video description explains.
LTWC's Cheryl Millham told ABC News, "This is what keeps me going after 37 years. This little girl now will have a chance to grow up, be a healthy, normal little bear and maybe be a mom herself someday."
