Sophia Bush: Men Have To Fight For Female Empowerment, Too

Sophia Bush has made a point of choosing on-screen roles that depict the kind of strong women she'd want to see, but it takes more than that to advance feminism, she said in a HuffPost Live interview on Tuesday.

"Honestly, I think it's not just our job because women's empowerment can't just be something that women are pushing for," the "Chicago PD" actress told host Caitlyn Becker.

"It has to be something that we're all pushing for. And we know statistically and we know historically that communities are better when women are empowered, so you and me can do the work, but the men around us have to do it too."

Bush also spoke about playing a role she didn't identify with at first: Brooke Davis, her "One Tree Hill" character of nine years.

"I couldn't relate to [Brooke], and I had a lot of say in shaping her," she said. "And the ways in which we were very different amused me and became a source of great entertainment for me, and the ways in which I could make us more similar for me became points of passion."
