If there is one night of the year when you can be sure that the fashion won't disappoint, it's the Met Gala. And this year was one for the books.
Yesterday evening the biggest designers, editors and celebrities came together to deliver some truly spectacular ensembles. Blake Lively literally stole the show in a curve-hugging Gucci number, Victoria Beckham proved, once again, that she is a fashion force to be reckoned with and Beyoncé was, well, just being Bey.
Check out our picks for best-dressed of the night, and let us know if you agree.
Blake Lively in Gucci
Jaws literally dropped when Blake Lively stepped onto the red carpet in this gown. As Ryan Reynolds joked to André Leon Talley, it looked like the dress had been "painted onto" his wife. Between the cape and the plunging neckline, we find it hard to believe that the actress will ever top this ensemble.
Emma Stone in Thakoon
Not only was it refreshing to see a top and skirt on the red carpet, but head-to-toe pink was also a nice change. This fashionista always keeps us on our toes.
Victoria Beckham in Victoria Beckham
The queen of minimalism makes another case for less is more.
Beyoncé in Givenchy
She woke up like this.
Georgia May Jagger in Thierry Mugler
The model is showing a lot of skin, but somehow it doesn't seem like too much. Maybe it's the length of the dress, or her loose waves that help to balance things out, but one way or another Jagger manages to look both sexy and sophisticated.
Sarah Jessica Parker in Oscar de la Renta
SJP really channeled Carrie Bradshaw in this over-the-top gown and we couldn't be more thrilled. This is what fashion should look like.
Karolina Kurkova in Marchesa
There are few occasions when a dress of this nature is appropriate, but the Met Gala sure is one of them. The print, volume and asymmetrical neckline all work together to create one statement-making gown.
Kristen Wiig in Balenciaga
This ensemble didn't photograph extremely well, but it was beautiful in person. Wiig's choice to wear pants inherently made her stand out, but it was the architectural dress overtop that made it a real showstopper.
Hailee Steinfeld in Prabal Gurung
For such a young star, Steinfeld has style in spades. This gown was extravagant in all the right ways and floated away from her body at the perfect spots. She looked age-appropriate and completely stunning.
Charlize Theron in Dior
Wearing a jacket as a cape is as fashion as it gets, but we especially love how Theron chose to mix such a feminine dress with a tuxedo jacket. The juxtaposition of the two make for a unique and striking ensemble.
Reese Witherspoon in Stella McCartney
This entire look screams old Hollywood. Witherspoon's heart-shaped neckline, retro waves and diamond earrings make it hard to believe that this was her first Met Gala -- she already looks like a seasoned pro.
