Adelle Waldman, Author Of 'The Love Affairs Of Nathaniel P,' Explains Motivation For Writing Book

'The Love Affairs Of Nathaniel P' Author Wanted To Write A Book That 'Took Dating Seriously'

Adelle Waldman saw a void in today's literary offerings and set out to fill it with her debut novel, "The Love Affairs Of Nathaniel P."

"I felt that there was a hole in our contemporary literature of books that took dating seriously and didn't treat it as a frivolous subject" she told HuffPost Live's Ricky Camilleri in an interview on Monday.

"And kind of that were literary in their aims but really analyzed the way people live and date now, and I hoped that would resonate. It was the kind of book I had wanted to read so I hoped others would respond as well."

The book is Adelle Waldman's first piece of published fiction, she said, and took her five years to write. It was deemed one of the best books of 2013 by The New Yorker, The Economist, and Book Forum, among a cadre of others.
