A 31-year-old woman is accused of pretending to be a high school student for almost an entire year.
Charity Anne Johnson was enrolled as a sophomore at New Life Christian School in Longview, Texas. Police said that Johnson began attending classes after she posed as an orphaned 15-year-old. She even found a family to take her in.
A spokesperson for the school said Johnson was brought in to enroll with a person who was her guardian. She enrolled in the school, giving a date of birth that indicated she was 15. On Tuesday, staff at the school discovered her identification was fake. She had been a student there since October 2013.
Police say Johnson identified herself to them as "Charity Stevens," the same alias she used to enroll at the school. She "takes reliving her high school days to a whole new level," according to a report from News Channel 10.
The revelation of her true identity came as a nasty shock to the school community.
Tamica Lincoln took Johnson in after the woman claimed that she was abused by her biological father, who passed away. Lincoln, who went so far as to meet with "Charity's" 10th grade teachers, was distraught over the discovery.
"I just don't know why she did it. Why put yourself and others at risk to do something like this?" said Lincoln, according to ABC13. "I have deep concerns about her being who we don't know she is and then she's out there at the school."
"Teachers were crying and students were crying, and her best friend just couldn't believe it," she added.
Johnson was arrested on charges including failure to identify/giving false, fictitious information.
