Mark Ballas has suffered a serious injury ahead of the "Dancing With the Stars" finale.

Us Weekly reports Ballas was badly hurt while rehearsing with his partner, Candace Cameron Bure. The injury occurred when he lifted Cameron Bure onto his shoulders as part of their routine.

"His shoulder popped out during a lift and he was taken by ambulance to the hospital," a representative for "Dancing With the Stars" told Us. "He was treated and released but, it remains unclear whether he'll be able to perform on Monday's show."

"Entertainment Tonight" confirmed that Ballas was taken to the hospital, treated and released and that he has been encouraged to sit out the Season 18 finale, but wants to perform. If he does wind up sitting out, another dancer will learn the routine and perform with Cameron Bure.

This is the second time Ballas has suffered a shoulder injury. He dislocated his left shoulder while performing in the finale in 2007, People magazine noted.

The season finale of "Dancing With the Stars" will air Monday, May 19, at 8 p.m. on ABC. The live results show will follow on Tuesday, May 20.
