This was the moment Gareth Bale was meant to be in.
With the final of the Champions League deadlocked 1-1 in the the second period of extra time, the 24-year-old Welsh winger scored the decisive goal for Real Madrid. Less than a year earlier, Real had broken financial records to bring him to Spain. Bale's breakthrough tally came in the 110th minute of a game in which he had squandered his early chances against Atletico Madrid.
"I've learned from past experiences to keep going, to forget about the chances you miss and keep persevering," Bale said after his team's eventual 4-1 win, via The Associated Press. "The celebrations of the crowd meant everything to me."
While the crowd's reaction may have moved Bale, it is his celebration that truly captured the emotion of the moment.
