Charlize Theron is not the first actress to compare the press intruding into her personal life to rape, and she certainly won't be the last -- but wouldn't it be nice if she were?

It's a tired comparison, which doesn't particularly serve anyone well. Just like the others before her, it's obvious that the 38-year-old didn't intend to trivialize rape or offend survivors of sexual assault during her interview with Sky News on May 30. Theron explained that "every aspect" of her life has become "fodder," and the fact that she doesn't google herself is her "saving grace." She added, "When you start living in that world, and doing that, you start feeling raped."

And even when given the chance to backtrack on her words, when asked if she meant to express the sentiment as strongly, she replied: "Well, when it comes to your son and your private life. Maybe it's just me. Some people might relish in all that stuff but there are certain things in my life that I think of as very sacred and I am very protective over them."

Well there you have it. We're sure the actress' rep will be issuing an apology on her behalf before the day is through.

And as mentioned earlier, Theron is not the first to compare rape to media intrusion. In a growing list of celebrities, there's Johnny Depp who told Vanity Fair that photo shoots make him feel like he's "being raped somehow"; Kristen Stewart, who told Elle that seeing paparazzi photos of herself felt like looking at someone being raped and Khloe Kardashian, who once noted that TSA officers "basically just are raping you in public" during pat down security checks.

Both Depp and Stewart later apologized for their remarks.
