Elina Furman, Co-Founder Of Pley, On How Her Lego-Rental Service Is Changing The Way Kids Play

The 'Netflix of Legos' Is Changing How Kids Play

When Elina Furman noticed that her son's penchant for Legos was taking a toll on her wallet, she decided to do something about it. She started Pley, a service in the vein of Netflix, where consumers receive different bundles of Legos based on their monthly subscription package and then mail them back.

Pley not only helps parents save money, Furman explained, but also introduces kids to a form of play that's community-oriented.

"Obviously, we are very clear in terms of our customer expectations and educations," she told host Caroline Modarressy Tehrani. "We are not Lego -- you are not going to be getting the perfect, put-together sets in the new box with all the little baggies. They're going to be a missing piece or two."

Interestingly, this imperfection is what makes Pley such an educational tool, Furman argues.

"That's part of the sharing part of it," she said. "It's not perfect. It's not [directly from] Lego, but it's so much more exciting than that because you're part of a really cool new platform: an instructive platform that has to do with the sharing economy," she said.
