Florida Woman Bitten By Shark While Inner Tubing

Her friends are just glad she's alive.

Jessica Vaughn, 22, was getting ready to go inner tubing in the Intracoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday afternoon when her friends say they saw her get hit in the face by a shark's fin, then watched in horror as the creature chomped down on her leg.

"I saw her leg come up and her skin flap over, and I knew it wasn't good," friend Nick Russo, who was in the water with Vaughn when she was attacked, told WSVN. She hadn't even made it into the tube before she was attacked.

Friends scrambled to get her out of the water and onto a boat, where they saw a huge laceration on her leg. Officials haven't confirmed that Vaughn was attacked by a shark, but her friends are convinced.

"I saw it. I looked back and I saw it. I fish in the Intracoastal all the time," Peter Hogge told WSVN. "It was probably about a 4-foot bull shark."

The Fort Lauderdale Fire Department posted a graphic image of Vaughn's bite to its Twitter:

Vaughn was taken to a local hospital where she was conscious and in good spirits on Monday, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

"She's been laughing and joking to everyone and showing her wound to everyone, from the nurses to the paramedics," Hogge told the newspaper.
