Brad Paisley proved that humor can sometimes be the best weapon against hate.
On Sunday, June 1, the 41-year-old country music star spotted a group of Westboro Baptist Church protestors picketing on the side of the road in Bonner Springs, Kansas, the Tennessean reports. Carrying signs bearing the words "God hates drunks" and "Sin breeds violence," the protestors had apparently come out to demonstrate at a concert that Paisley was scheduled to perform that night in a nearby amphitheater.
Instead of taking offense or shying away from the group, however, Paisley decided to seize the opportunity to take a selfie posing with the protestors and their signs:
This isn't the first time that a country music artist has come face to face with the Kansas-based group. Last year, Vince Gill confronted a group of Westboro protestors who had come out to picket a concert he was playing in Kansas City, Mo.
"[Jesus said] a lot of stuff about forgiveness, about grace. You guys don't have any of that," Gill was captured on video telling a Westboro supporter.
Described as a "homophobic and anti-Semitic hate group" by the Anti-Defamation League, the WBC regularly stages protests around the country, including at the funerals of soldiers, celebrities and shooting victims. Westboro has also picketed outside the concerts of many musicians over the years, including Lorde and Lady Gaga.
