NYC's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center has curated a new photo exhibition that documents the growth of the Pride movement from 1970-1985.
Presented by the Center’s National History Archive, "Pride March -- The Early Years," illustrates the spirit, diversity and concerns of the queer community and movement during this time immediately following the historic Stonewall Riots.
“The March is an opportunity for us to show our pride as a community, but it also serves as a visual expression of our struggles, heartbreaks, triumphs and celebrations over the years,” said Glennda Testone, The Center’s Executive Director. “These images from the first 15 years tell thousands of stories; those of organizing in response to the AIDS crisis, those of refusal to accept discrimination, and those of solidarity and support for all of our brothers and sisters.”
