YouTube's #ProudToPlay Campaign Highlights LGBT Athletes, Calls For Equality In Sports

LOOK: YouTube's Amazing New Push For LGBT Equality In Sports

YouTube is marking LGBT Pride Month with an awesome new campaign, calling for diversity in the sports arena and society.

The #ProudToPlay campaign features major LGBT athletes including Tom Daley, Jason Collins, Brittney Griner and Robbie Rogers and highlights conversations happening on YouTube about both equality and sports, according to press materials.

"As a professional athlete, we accept that we are role models," Collins said in an email statement. "It’s great that regardless of your sexual orientation, that the conversation was started and people started talking about being gay in professional sports. If you’re straight, just continue to be supportive. And if you see someone being bullied, or hear language that’s inappropriate, speak up and speak out. It’s very important to have those allies out there who are being brave for some of us who aren’t yet ready to be brave on our own."

The effort comes on the heels of last year's #ProudToLove campaign, and the brand hopes to inspire users to talk about what being #ProudToPlay means to them on the YouTube Spotlight Channel, which will feature a collection of videos about the LGBT community and sports throughout June.
