Ron Klain, Former Chief Of Staff To Al Gore, Admits 2000 Election Still Hurts: 'I'll Never Be Over It'

Fourteen years after the controversial 2000 presidential election, Al Gore's loss still stings.

Ron Klain, Gore's former chief of staff, told HuffPost Live's Josh Zepps that no amount of time will make it easier to accept what the Gore team missed out on.

"Justice [Antonin] Scalia goes around and gives speeches in the country, and he'll often say to people when [the 2000 election] comes up, 'It's time for you to get over it.' That's his line: 'Get over it.' And when I'm asked about it, I always say, 'I'm not over it. I'll never be over it,'" Klain said.

Klain said he truly believes Gore had more votes in Florida and would have defeated Bush if not for the state's vote-counting procedure.

"What happened in Florida was in and of itself an injustice," he said. "The bottom line is people went to the polls, they were denied the right to vote in a very questionable purge of voters. They were given ballots that were improperly counted. So I think it's a great injustice. It will always be a great injustice."
