Charles Phoenix's Fried Cereal Is A Snack Game Changer

Posted: Updated:

From the guy who brought us the Cherpumple -- remember the three pies and three cakes baked all together into one dessert? -- comes fried cereal. You read that right: Fried. Cereal. If you're thinking that America does not need another reason to fry, you are dead wrong. And Charles Phoenix, the very strange yet totally lovable humorist, is going to prove it to you.

Phoenix has an aptitude for making sugary foods even more decadent. It's a terrifying skill that we secretly admire -- and he has applied it to the most innocent of foods: children's cereals. Before any of you become irate at the mere thought of frying our beloved kid's cereal, let us explain. This cereal is not battered. It is not deep-fried. It is simply cooked in butter, as all foods should be. Phoenix's fried cereal would more accurately be named sautéed cereal, but it doesn't have the same ring to it.

Phoenix's fried cereal recipe calls for a combination of your favorite children's cereal and about a half a stick of butter, and then you eat it as a snack. It's what Chex Mix always wanted to be. Don't get us wrong, we are in no way encouraging people to do this -- nor do we think it's of any culinary note -- we just love that someone had the crazy idea to cook cereal in butter and call it a snack.

Watch the video above and see Phoenix at work.
