'Queens At Court,' Shiv Paul Documentary, Showcases LGBT Tennis Players

A fascinating new documentary is making waves in the sports world by showcasing the experiences of a group of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) individuals navigating the world of tennis.

Titled "Queens at Court" and from the mind of Shiv Paul, the documentary profiles the stories of adversity faced by four queer tennis players who regularly compete on an international gay and lesbian tennis tour, the Gay Games and United States Tennis Association (USTA) heterosexual recreational tennis leagues.

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) also recently announced that the organization is slated to sponsor three separates screenings of the film throughout July and August.

"This film is important because what started as a potentially interesting profile on the thousands of LGBTQ players who join together to compete in the numerous LGBTQ sporting outlets instead became a story that transcends athleticism, gender and sexuality..." Paul said in a statement to The Huffington Post. "This is the true message of 'Queens at Court': that we all have more in common with each other than we perhaps want to admit. At the end of the day we all simply want to be who we are and be accepted for that by others and, more importantly, by ourselves."
