Josh Earnest's First Day As White House Press Secretary Didn't End So Well

Josh Earnest's First WH Briefing Didn't End So Well

First days are never easy.

That was especially true for new White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest, whose first press briefing on Monday ended in a very tense exchange with some reporters. After making his final remarks, Earnest was hammered with questions before he could make his way down from the podium.

One reporter in particular, RealClearPolitics' Alexis Simendinger, grilled Earnest for not mentioning that the president had spoken to Russian president Vladimir Putin when he was asked about any calls Obama made to world leaders concerning Iraq.

"Alexis, you don’t have to get all exercised about this,” Earnest responded.

“She’s not getting exercised, she’s telling you what it is,” another reporter shot back.

“We asked you a question," Simendinger said. "You should answer the question."
