Colts Coach: Cancer Is 'Like Getting Hit In The Head With A Baseball Bat'

The Indianapolis Colts hired Chuck Pagano to be their head coach in January 2012. By September, Pagano had been diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia and found himself sidelined for much of his first season. It was jarring, to say the least.

Pagano told HuffPost Live host Marc Lamont Hill on Tuesday that the cancer diagnosis was "like getting hit in the head with a baseball bat." Pagano joined the show to talk about his new book, Sidelined: Overcoming Odds through Unity, Passion, and Perseverance.

"It's not something any of us expect to be coming down the pike, so to speak," Pagano said.

Pagano is in full remission, and coached the Colts to a 11-5 record in 2013.
