Uruguay President Rages Against FIFA 'Sons Of B*#@hes'

Uruguayan President José Mujica lashed out at FIFA on Sunday over the organization’s expulsion of his national team’s star striker for biting.

The day after Uruguay’s loss to Colombia, sports journalist Sergio Gorzy for Uruguayan National Television asked Mujica what he thought of this year’s World Cup.

“The FIFA is a bunch of old sons of bitches,” Mujica said, then clasping his hand over his mouth like a child who suddenly realizes he’s done something that can get him in trouble. “They could have punished him without these fascist sanctions.”

The sports journalist for National Uruguayan Television then asked Mujica if he should air the comments. “Publish it, if it’s up to me,” Mujica responded.

Asked her opinion, Sen. Lucía Topolanski, the first lady, chuckled and said she “adheres to the words of the president.”

During the game with Colombia on Saturday the Uruguayan team felt the absence of their star player Luis Suárez. The striker was suspended for nine international matches and banned from all football-related activity for four months after he bit another player.

Suarez sunk his teeth into Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini near the shoulder during a game with Italy on Tuesday. Since he wasn't immediately sanctioned during the game by the referee, FIFA decided to take matters into its own hands.
