Woman Accused Of Beating Mom Turns Herself In

A New Jersey woman suspected of pummeling a young mother as her toddler watched in horror is in police custody.

Latia Harris, 25, turned herself in to authorities nearly a week after cell phone footage of the violent June 24 incident near a McDonald's in Salem City surfaced, NBC Philadelphia reports.

"I believe Harris had no other choice than to turn herself in under her own terms as it would only be a matter of time before she was captured," Salem Police Chief John Pelura III said, according to the Star-Ledger.

Authorities say that the two women were co-workers at McDonald's. Harris told police that she believed the victim, 27-year-old Catherine Ferreira, was spreading gossip about her having a romantic relationship with a manager, according to News 12 New Jersey. Ferreira suffered a broken nose and several contusions to her face.

Harris is charged with aggravated assault and making terroristic threats.
