NBC News Airs An Hour-Long Commercial For Its Corporate Partner

Don't ever let it be said that NBC News isn't willing to give a little boost to its fellow members of the NBCUniversal corporate family.

The network aired an hour-long special on Monday about the new Diagon Alley section of the "Wizarding World of Harry Potter" theme park at the Universal Studios resort in Orlando. A press release touted the "EXCLUSIVE ACCESS" that correspondent Meredith Vieira had been given to the attraction. And how did NBC get this exclusive tour? Vieira provided the answer during the broadcast: "Universal Orlando Resorts, like NBC News, is part of NBCUniversal."

She also informed viewers that the theme park was a "magical place" that provided "a spot-on authentic experience that amazes even those who have seen it all."

NBCUniversal and Comcast were probably very pleased with this gushing assessment.

Of course, corporate synergy is nothing new in the TV news business, and NBC is far from alone in happily plugging the products of its parent company. In May, for example, ABC's "Good Morning America" took viewers on a trip to Disney World, and didn't even tell its audience there was a glaring corporate connection.
