Mom Tried To Suffocate Her Baby In The Hospital: Cops

An 18-year-old mom, who investigators say tried to suffocate her baby in a hospital, allegedly claims she did it for attention.

On paper, Brenna Winter loves her daughter. Her Facebook page is loaded with photos of her and her 3-month-old girl. She even set up a new Facebook page for the child, posting loving updates on her daughter's recent string of hospital visits in Florida. Yet, what happened on June 6 at Nemours Hospital in Orlando is anything but loving, WFTV reports.

The little girl had been vomiting blood and was admitted to the children's hospital, which is outfitted with baby monitoring equipment that alerts nurses if a patient is in distress. One of those alarms went off on June 6 and a video monitoring system showed Winter beside the little girl with her hands inside the crib, according to the Osceola News-Gazette.

A few hours later, when Winter was nursing her daughter, she squeezed the little girl so tightly that she turned blue, police say. The alarm went off again, and doctors had to revive the baby. They also found that Winter had placed her finger down the girl's throat, My News 13 reports.

Winter reportedly admitted to the crime, saying that she tried to kill the girl for attention. She was charged with battery by strangulation and aggravated child abuse. She's being held without bail at the Orange County Jail.

It's another bizarre case of a mom accused of child abuse for attention. Lacey Spears, of New York, is suspected of poisoning her son with toxic levels of sodium to keep him sick, so that she could air her woes on social media. Read more about Spears by clicking here.
