Tim Howard’s stellar performance for the U.S. men’s soccer team Tuesday gained the goalkeeper a bit more than just recognition.
For his efforts in turning back the Belgians’ numerous attempts on goal, Howard was briefly named the U.S. secretary of defense on Wikipedia.
Howard made 16 saves against the Belgian team, which ultimately won the game 2-1. The goalkeeper now has the most saves in any World Cup match on record.
According to The Verge, the Wikipedia page was quickly re-edited with the correct secretary of defense, Chuck Hagel, although the publication does note that Hagel blocked exactly zero goals for the U.S. during Tuesday's game.
The entry may have been temporary, but a new White House petition has started an effort to rename the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport to the “Tim Howard National Airport,” according to CBS Sports.
Despite the team's heartbreaking loss, Howard told ESPN just after the game, “I will never forget this night.”
