Jon Maciel of the Detroit Tigers' Class-A affiliate West Michigan Whitecaps was pitching to Josh Vanmeter of the Padres' Fort Wayne TinCaps when a bird fluttered directly into the line of his delivery. The bird went down and stayed down right after the pitch.
Maciel posted his own reaction on Twitter after the game as the video started to spread across the Internet.
This improbable event has actually occurred before. A fastball from former All-Star pitcher Randy Johnson connected with a bird during a 2001 spring training game.
