3-Year-Old With Cancer Becomes America's Youngest Sheriff Deputy

Lawbreakers beware! Indiana's Finest just got a new pint-sized addition.

This week, 3-year-old Wyatt Schmaltz was sworn in as an official sheriff's deputy from his room at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. The toddler, who has been battling stage 4 neuroblastoma since April, received the official designation of Deputy Sheriff Wyatt "as a tribute to the courage he has demonstrated throughout his battle with an aggressive cancer," according to a press release.

Huntington County Sheriff Terry Stoffel and an Indiana state trooper traveled to the hospital to give America's youngest deputy sheriff his official badge and uniform. They performed the ceremony in front of a teary-eyed audience of doctors, hospital staff and family.

"We have given Wyatt all the powers of a real sheriff deputy, which are to carry out the orders of the sheriff," Stoffel said to Wyatt's friends and family. "Right now, his only orders are to get better."

After he was sworn in, Wyatt had just one question: "What else do you have?"

Looks like there's a new sheriff in town.
